Verdict and Conclusion
Although we haven’t seen many SSDs using these new DRAM-Less SSD controller from Maxiotech, one thing’s for sure … and that is, these SSDs are extremely affordable without compromising on performance. The Lexar NM790 is fast, reliable and performs pretty well in all of our benchmarks. During our Crystalmark 32GB tests, it produced a Read speed of 7,087 MB/sec and Write speeds of 6,151 MB/sec. It’s slightly below the adverised speed of 7,400 Mb/sec, but still it’s better than I expected considering it uses a DRAM-Less SSD controller.
The Lexar NM790 doesn’t come with any heatsinks or heatshield, and the reason for this is because the Maxiotech DRAM-Less SSD controller uses 12nm technology, meaning it’s more power efficient and thus produces less heat. However, I stil recommend installing a M.2 heatsink that usually comes with the motherboard.
The good news about this SSD is that it’s compatible for both Intel and AMD based PC systems, as well as Playstation 5. It available in capacities of 512GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB. You can buy it now on Amazon for only $124.99 with a 5 year limited warranty! https://amzn.to/3Z4jh6K At this price, it’s an absolute bargain!
