Conclusion and Verdict
If a drive like this came in a large 10TB size and wasn’t a 1000 dollars I would have a new game drive for sure. I need to have such a large storage device because deleting and redownloading games as I want is not an option for me so I have to just store them. Oh I wish for fiber, that’s a different rant for another day. So lets get down to what you would actually be using this particular drive for. This drive would make an extremely affordable boot drive. The 550MB/s speed is quite sufficient and the increase over an old spinner is night and day. If you are able to quickly download games then this would make a perfect game drive as well. You would notice quicker load times, apps would launch quicker and your actually files would be a lot safer then if they were on a HHD. This drive has a warranty and features shock and vibration resistance. This something you could stuff in your back pocket and not have to worry about it. I would be slightly cautious as the shell is a plastic and not metal. I am not even going to analyze the price because it could change next week or not, who really knows. But right now this drive has a great price of 55 dollars for the 480GB version.
As of right now a lot of people I talk to, only see the SSD’s price as affordable when using them as a boot drive. When I can buy and 8TB SSD for around 500 dollars that’s when I will start using one as a gaming drive. Until then I will tolerate the grinding and whining on my old HHD.
