Verdict and Conclusion
You can never get enough storage space, especially when AAA games nowadays can take up anywhere between 50GB to 200GB or more. And this is the reason why we are seeing a lot of manufacturers producing SSDs with larger capacites. A few years ago, I used to say 1TB was enough … but honestly now, I’m wondering whether 2TB or more would be better. LOL!
The Lexar PLAY 2280 4TB offers plenty of storage capacity, and fast read/writes speeds of up to 7400/6500 MB/s, respectively. The SSD has been tested and approved for the PS5 console, and allows you to play games right off the drive. That said, it also works on any PC with a M.2 slot that support PCIE Gen4x4.
During our tests, the Lexar PLAY 2280 produced very good scores in all of our benchmarks. In our Crystalmark disk tests, it produced a Read speed of of 7,101.50 MB/sec and a Write speed of 6,487.08 MB/sec. It performed slightly lower than advertised, but nothing to cry about.
The Lexar PLAY 2280 comes with a unique and stylish heatsink, which enhances cooling during intense gameplay or heavy work loads. We tested the PLAY 2280 on a MSI Z790 Project Zero motherboard, and it fitted effortlessly, I expect the same when installing on a PS5.
Final Thoughts
With a capacity of 4TB and fast read/write speeds, you’ll never have to worry about storage space with the Lexar PLAY 2280. It also comes with a unique and stylish heatsink for enhanced cooling, plus you get an impressive 5-year warranty too.
