Verdict and Conclusion
This is one FAST external SSD let me tell you. It’s perfect for gamers and content creators on the go, who needs a compact, portable, and light-weight external SSD, that offers fast read and write speeds. And the Lexar SL660 BLAZE Gaming Portable 1TB SSD gives you all that and more.
Measuring just 57.4 x 112.6 x 10.6mm it’s compact and only weighs 80g, making it extremely light-weight and portable. The Aluminium casing helps with the cooling and has a sandblasted finish, which feels nice on the hand and adds protection against shock and vibration.
Other features I like include the RGB lighting. The RGB LEDs create a lively atmosphere making your gameplay more dynamic, and add a touch of color to your gaming setup. I also like the included stand/dock which allows you place the SSD on your desk for easy access.
During our CrystalMark disk tests, it produced a super fast read speed of 2,012.85 MB/sec and an impressive write speed of 1,845.66 MB/sec. That’s faster than some of my older M.2 SSDs (PCIE 3 Gen3) which I bought last year!
- You can buy the Lexar SL660 BLAZE Gaming Portable 1TB SSD for around USD $149.99 from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3eivOQx.
- You can also get the USB 3.2 Gen2x2 (20Gbps) Type-E to Type-C front panel header extension from Amazon – https://amzn.to/3RQtQG7
As I mentioned before, the Lexar SL660 BLAZE uses the latest USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20Gbps) interface, and to get the full benefits and speeds of this interface, you’ll need to make sure your laptop or PC can support the new USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20Gbps). Most laptops and PCs that I’ve come accoss don’t fully support USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, offering instead USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) only. Please check your motherboard/laptop manufacturer for more details.

Final Thoughts
The Lexar SL660 BLAZE is one of the fastest external portable SSDs I’ve tested to date. It’s even faster than some of the M.2 (PCIE Gen3) SSDs that I’m currently using.
