Assembled
Obviously Some assembly was required. Nothing major though. The only part that took some considerable pondering was where the hardware key, for the software licences went on the card. Little hole in the documentation for that. However There was only one place to put it on the card. There was also only one way to insert the connector, due to the connector layout and board thickness.
The finished result still fits into a low profile card slot, despite the added heft.
With the cards installed and secured in place you do notice that there isn’t much room left for cooling of the gigantic PowerPC processor on the controller. In a server environment this is not a big deal. Due to the large amount of air generally moving from front to back inside the chassis and racks. For desktop or workstation computing it can be a problem. Since fan noise can be a concern in these environments I choose to later relocate BBU to a different part of the case. Allowing for increased airflow, without the need for increased fan speeds.
