Test Setup
Testing was accomplished on a blank formatted SSD. The drive used in our tests was first securely erased via software provided by their respective manufacturer and then updated to their latest firmware using OCZ guru tool. For the test I tested the drive with as an active drive and between each test I ran TRIM and rebooted the system. As my sample sizes increase I will have comparable of drives but for now we will see the results of the Radeon R7. Our test setup consists of the following hardware:
Performance
Just as a quick reminder of the advertised specifications from OCZ. Sequential read 550 MB/s and sequential write 530 MB/s.
ATTO Disk Benchmark v2.47
Using ATTO disk benchmark v2.47 the OCZ ARC 100 performed well exceeding the manufactures specifications. Achieving 541.5 MB/s read and 500.0 MB/s write. OCZ states that they also use ATTO to benchmark the drive.
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.4 x64
Testing the drive with CrystalDiskMark 3.0.4 x64 the OCZ ARC 100 returned results a little less that that of ATTO. That is a common occurrence so no worries with the results returned. The OCZ Radeon R7 achieved a 452.4 MB/s read and 488.2 MB/s write.
AS SSD Benchmark 1.7.4739
Testing the drive with AS SSD Benchmark 1.7.4739 the OCZ Radeon R7returned results a little less that that of ATTO and CrystalDiskMark. That is a common occurrence so no worries with the results returned. The OCZ Radeon R7 achieved a 452.68 MB/s read and 455.85 MB/s write and a score of 929.
Here a couple of graphs showing the OCZ ARC100 as a comparable. As you can see in the graphs the Radeon R7 proves to be a better choice as a gaming SSD. The read and writes where very close to the advertised speeds and outperformed the OCZ ARC100 in every aspect.
There we have it! The Radeon R7 brought to us by OCZ! Let us cover a few final thoughts and conclusion of our review.
