OCZ RevoDrive 3 – 120GB PCIe SSD Review

The RevoDrive3 and its Packaging, a Picture Experience

As usual we’ll start with the box, it is a simple affair that gets the point across.  The edges showed up a bit frayed but intact on the whole.

Inside the box is another box, this one made of far thicker material.

Even simpler box here.  A third box slides out the side of this box!

Hey we finally found the drive!  Deep in foam and wrapped in an anti-static bag.  Note the label on the bag!  Be careful about static with the RevoDrive series, their lack of a casing makes them less hardened against finger based static.

Unlike the previous SSDs we have reviewed I didn’t have to break a warranty sticker to get pictures of the internals.  Refreshing!

Here we see two Sandforce controllers (pictures of them in a moment), a heatsink on top of another chip, and four flash chips out of a possible sixteen. In between the two controllers is a blank spot where the connector for a second PCB is placed for the X2 drives.  That’s what the blank mounting holes are for, too.
