Photos
Now generally we have a few pages of photos, but in this case there just isn’t much to see. We’ll do it all on this one page this time and save your mouse buttons some wear and tear.
The front of the “box” is quite simple, mostly you see the drive.
The rear has a little bit of marketing, but there really isn’t much to see.
The drive itself is done up in Vertex 3 trim and looks very nice. The silver there is quite shiny.
On the bottom we have a label and lots of brushed metal.
Standard SATA connectors. You get a better view of the metal this way, too.
Don’t open your drive up, I’ll open mine and show you what is inside. Looks pretty familiar, really. Different pattern, same basic idea.
On the bottom, eight more flash chips.
The controller, our old friend the SF-2281. Mighty fast, this thing.
We get eight of these characters, for 256GB in total. The Sandforce controller keeps some to itself to use for wear leveling, caching, and long term dead cell replacement.
Lastly, the power bits. Little to none of this stuff runs off 12v/5v/3.3v, so the incoming voltage needs to be dropped down further.
