Patriot Scorch 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD Review

Performance

Test setup contains AMD Ryzen R3 2200G APU, ASRock X370 Gaming ITX motherboard and 16GB of Patriot Viper LED DDR4-3200 memory. Installed operating system is Windows 10 x64 with the latest updates. Nothing unusual so I think that many of our readers can compare results on their home computers.

As usual we will start with ATTO Disk Benchmark.

Our results are clearly better than what Patriot declared. Read bandwidth is up to 1769MB/s so about 70MB/s higher than expected and write bandwidth even passed 900MB/s so over 120MB/s more that we see in the specification. It’s always good to see more than we are expecting.

About the same is in CrystalDiskMark so up to 1627MB/s read and 877MB/s write. Great results which are more than enough for most users.

Random bandwidth is also good but I already wish to see higher 4KiB Q1T1 results on new SSD. It’s hard to complain but we’ve already seen better random performance on Patriot Hellfire. I guess that nothing is for free and for that higher performance simply have to pay more.

The same as on Patriot Burst reviewed couple of days ago, also the Scorch has weird results in Anvil’s Storage Utilities. It’s the only benchmark where we see much lower results in some tests than we were expecting. Hard to explain why so we just skip it and move to more demanding Futuremark benchmark.

In PCMark we can see overall performance of our PC. PCMark 10 has no separated storage suite but we can compare results in various activities. Our total score is about 100 points higher than on the Patriot Burst so storage performance clearly helps. There were no issues during multiple runs of PCMark 10. Patriot Scorch is simply performing great and should satisfy even more demanding users.
