We are presenting the VPR400 RGB Gen4 M.2 SSD today and if you are always asking yourself, why can’t I find a Gen4x4 RGB M.2? Well, that’s because it was pretty much impossible to find one. So much so, It has the title of the the World’s First RGB PCIe Gen4x4 SSD. If you are like me and found that to be an huh? moment, don’t feel bad because I thought there was surely Gen4x4 RGB M.2’s. And after looking nope there really wasn’t. I will be honest I haven’t specifically aimed for a RGB Gen4x4 model, but I thought they existed. I was just looking for something that offered the highest transfer speeds. Gen4x4 was total function over form. Till now! Yes, RGB is almost always going to be form rather than function. I say almost always because setting your RGB to coordinate with system temps can be very useful. But for the most part, if you go RGB you have chosen form over function. RGB is the one thing that I struggle with. Do I need it? No, but it so cool I want it no matter what. In my opinion it makes everything better. And yes, I am a person that would be perfectly fine exchanging some function for form. I have stated before the RGB can affect performance on SSD’s. I don’t have solid testing proof of this, but lights require power, and that power has to take it from somewhere and that is usually from the device itself. Small devices like these only have a set capability of drawing and spreading that power out across the device. Hopefully we can get some good tests to see if we can see any difference when there are lights or when there are none. So, let’s not delay this anymore and check out this SSD!
