The Box and Packaging

The packaging is plain and simple and contains 1 x USB Type-C to C cable, and the PNY RP60 portable SSD itself.

The build quality is very good and feels pretty soild in the hand. The SSD is encased in a silicone shell and offers IP65 water and dust resistance, as well as protection from a drop from a height of up to 3 meters. It’s fairly compact in size measuring  3.83 x 2.36 x 0.49 inches, and weighs in at around 100g.

The USB-C port is easily accessible and is protected by a silicone flap. Just make sure your re-seal the USB-C port when you venture outdoors. On the top od the SSD, you’ll find a clip loop which allows you to easily slide it into your pocket or secure it onto your belt or backpack.

We connected the PNY RP60 to our laptop which only has the slower USB 3.2 Gen1 interface. It works fine, but maximum read/write speed only reached 1000MB/sec.

We also tried the SSD on a desktop PC with the faster USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface. It also worked perfectle, giving me the full speed read speed of up to 2000 MB/sec.

We didn’t have an iPhone 15 on hand to test the PNY RP60, but according to PNY you can record Pro Res 4K video @ 60FPS directly to the drive, using your iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
