Verdict and Conclusion
I used to think that USB sticks/thumb drives was all I would ever need when it comes to saving and transfering files. This may be true many years ago, when file sizes were small and manageable. However, times have changed with the increase of content creators producing high quality 1080p or 4K videos.
Large video files can be upwards of a few hundred gigabytes. Yes you heard me correctly … a few hundred gigabytes per file! So you’ll need an external/portable storage device that can handle, not only large capacities, but also able to offer fast read/write operation. I don’t think my USB sticks/thumb drive can handle it.
Thanks to the faster USB 3.2 Gen2x2 interface, manufacturers can now offer external/portable storage devices that can address both the capacity and speed issues of USB sticks/thumb drives.
The PNY RP60 is compact and light-weight portable SSD, measuring 3.83 x 2.36 x 0.49 inches, and weighs in at around 100g. The SSD is encased in a silicone shell and offers IP65 water and dust resistance, as well as protection from a drop from a height of up to 3 meters.
During our CrystalMark disk tests, it produced a fast read speed of 1997.37 MB/sec and an decent write speed of 1,724.45 MB/sec. This is fairly accurate to their “advertised” speeds, so no complaints here.
The SSD should be more than capable and fast enough to edit and render large video files directly of the drive itself using Premier Pro.
