As I mentioned earlier, the Synology Diskstation DS215+ features a screwless design setup, which meants you don’t need any extra tools to mount the hard drives. You can setup the unit in a matter of minutes … seriously! Installation couldn’t be simpler. All you need to do is pull out the drive bay brackets, release the mounting clips, put the hard drive in in to the bracket and re-mount the clips … then put the drive bay back int othe NAS and lock it down … and that’s it!

For this review, we managed to source 2 x Western Digital Red NAS – WD30EFRX 3.0TB drives (with 64MB cache). These hard drives are specifically designed and optimized for NAS usage, so we should be able to get some decent transfer rates for both read and write speed. In our tests, we let the Synology software setup the 2 hard drives in “mirror mode” for data protection and fault tolerance …Ok, now let’s see what kind of software the Synology Diskstation DS215+ comes with …
