Package and Contents
We received the G70 Pro 4TB SSD in the retail package. The package is well-described with general specifications and support contact. If we wish for more details or an installation manual, we must visit the TEAMGROUP website. M.2 SSD installation is straightforward, and every motherboard or laptop has a quick installation guide, so we don’t have to worry.
The SSD is delivered without a heatsink, so we must install it before we can fully use it. The exception is when we have a motherboard with a proper M.2 cooling. In this case, it’s even better the G70 Pro comes without a pre-installed heatsink.
The only real requirement for optimal performance is an M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 socket. The SSD is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0 standard, but it would lead to worse performance.
Since the SSD is 4TB, it uses high-density NAND and has to be double-sided. This would be an issue for thin laptops, but since this SSD is equipped with a heatsink and designed for desktop computers, it’s not a problem.
Our tests were performed on the latest AMD platform with a Gigabyte B650E Master motherboard. This motherboard is equipped only with PCIe 5.0 x4 sockets, so it won’t limit the G70 Pro’s performance in any test. For the test requirements, the motherboard had removed its heatsink.
We will show you how the G70 Pro 4TB SSD performs on the next page of this review.
