TerraMaster F2-422 is a NAS categorized as a small business product. The main reason is a 10GbE connector, which is mainly related to professional products and business-grade networking. We can have a piece of that professional storage at home, but we will also need a 10GbE switch and other devices that can support this speed. The bad part is that all 10GbE devices are expensive, and it’s hard to find a smaller switch with more than two 10GbE ports at less than $300. In our tests, we will use Netgear XS505M, an unmanaged switch that is equipped with five 10GbE ports, and its price is around $350, so it’s still acceptable for a home environment.

In tests, we will also use two Patriot Burst 960GB SSD reviewed recently. These SSDs are inexpensive but still base on TLC NAND, so they should be a better option for NAS than the new QLC series. Of course, there are HDD and SSD designed for NAS, but their price is high, so not all can afford it. Our tests are mainly to show TerraMaster F2-422 performance, so any SSD is fine to reach its maximum bandwidth.

Package and its Contents

TerraMaster NAS arrived in a blue box with its logo and a label saying what product we will find inside. Inside is, of course, the F2-422 NAS.

Even though the box doesn’t say much, I like it looks clean, simple, and somehow professional.

Inside the box, we will find a well-protected NAS and a box with accessories, manuals, and a power supply. The package is similar to that of all the best NAS brands. I guess it’s just a standard nowadays, but everything is well protected, and that’s the most important.

Below you can see the smaller box contents. The photo doesn’t include one thing, a screwdriver, which is also in the package. TerraMaster delivers everything we may need for the installation and some more.

On the next page, we will take a closer look at the NAS.
