Conclusion and Verdict
Zalman has yet again released a unique product, and a rather good one at that. The Zalman ZM-VE400
The additional features make this drive case interesting and quite useful. The additional options are all potentially useful, there isn’t anything we can look at and think “why did that add that?“. We can check our drive’s health or switch modes to optical drive to install system directly from the drive. Very cool.
The design is also good. The looks are simple but high quality. Hard to say about durability as we didn’t perform any drop tests but during regular tests we had no problems with this device. Every single option declared by Zalman is working fine.
Installation and configuration is simple so I doubt that anyone will have problems with that.
Now one word about price. For some users ~$75 can be a lot for only drive case but as I already said before, it’s not regular drive case and all these additional features are worth its price if you are going to use them.

Final words
If you’re looking for a HDD enclosure with additional features, then I think the Zalman ZM-VE400 is a great product that’s totally worth its price. I would recommend it to everyone who is using external USB drives or need external storage with hardware encryption.
