Verdict & Conclusion
Let’s get something straight here, when you are willing to fork out extra money to buy a PCI-e SSD over a SATA SSD, you are looking at performance, and with the SONIX you will not be disappointed. Even though in some of our synthetic tests the write speed dropped, in real life tests, the SONIX kept up its blazing performance. If you are already using a SATA SDD, you might be wondering if it is worth spending a premium on a comparatively small boost in disk read and write performance, but to those that are looking for that extra boost, it is worth every penny.
Installation is very straight forward as Microsoft has bundled in NVMe drivers since Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2, so slap it in and away you go.
Physically, the SONIX with its low profile will appeal to a lot of users with smaller cases, and the fact that ZOTAC has supplied a half-height PCI slot bracket improves the appeal of the SONIX. During all the testing, I would reach in to feel the metal shielding of the SONIX, and not once would I describe it as getting luke warm.
Priced at around HKD$3,000 (USD $425), the SONIX isn’t cheap, and the high price tag of a PCI-e SSD will not appeal to beginners. But those look for the best performance to go with their high-end motherboards, the SONIX is a great fit. Buy now at Amazon – https://goo.gl/3rPpdv
