Asus ROG Strix Gaming GeForce RTX 2060 (6GB GDDR6) Graphics Card Review

Today, we’ll be taking a quick look at the Asus ROG Strix Gaming GeForce RTX 2060 (6GB GDDR6) Graphics Card. This card uses Nvidia’s latest GPU, the GeForce RTX 2060 features 1920 CUDA Cores and Turing architecture which offers ray tracing capabilities. It also comes with GDDR6 ram running at 14 Gbps on a 192-bit memory bus.

The GPU is already overclocked to a clock speed of 1710 MHz (default boost speed is 1680 MHz), but if you use the GPU Tweak II software, you can easily switch between to 2 pre-configured modes. “OC” mode will overclock your card to an impressive 1830 MHz, and with a bit a tweaking it could even reach 2000 MHz. While the “Gaming” mode, pushes the GPU to run at 1800 MHz, which is more than enough for most gamers who want that extra boost.

As you all know, overclocking your GPU will increase the temperature of your graphics card, so to help with cooling, Asus have included their MaxContact technology which features a large heatsink with 2x more surface area, all cooled by 3 silent Wing Blade fans.

With so much room to overclock your card … the Asus ROG Strix Gaming GeForce RTX 2060 could be the most overclockable RTX 2060 in the market right now!

What is RTX all about?

Well, Nvidia have included Ray-Tracing capabilities in their new Turing GPU, giving you lifelike lighting, reflections, and shadows, offering a level of realism far beyond what’s possible using traditional rendering techniques.

Ray-Tracing is nothing new, in fact it’s been around a lot longer than you can imagine. The very first real-time ray-tracing was presented by Arthur Appel in 1968. It became more widely known during the 1980’s but it required huge processing power that only a few mainframe computers and a handful of workstations could offer.

Now almost forty years later, Nvidia is bringing real-time Ray-Tracing to the masses with their Turing GPUs, and you’ll find them on their GeForce RTX series of graphic cards.

Here’s a quick comparison of the GeForce RTX 20 series from Nvidia (default clock speeds)…

We’ll start by saying a big thanks to Asus ROG for providing the review sample. This is a snippet from what ROG has to say about themselves on their website:

For years since its establishment, ASUS aimed to put an ever-greater emphasis on PC gaming. This process resulted in the 2006 founding of the Republic of Gamers brand (ROG), formed for the sole purpose of delivering the most innovative hardcore hardware for truly dedicated gamers.

Since then, the efforts of the ROG team have led to a constant flow of PC gaming technology that has become legendary among enthusiasts for its performance. ROG is more than just hardware, though – we take an active part in the global gaming community, helping develop the industry by sponsoring events such as PAX and Dreamhack. Worldwide media have recognized ROG as a leader in PC gaming and overclocking performance, with many of our products winning awards and gaining very positive feedback from hardware pros.

With this great response from gamers and the industry, ROG has all the resources it needs to keep working on enabling even better experiences – technology never sleeps, nor should the action!

So what can we expect from the Asus ROG Strix Gaming GeForce RTX 2060 … well I’m expecting some very good performance, and it should easily beat the GeForce RTX 2060 from both the MSI and Zotac.

OK let’s get down to business and start with the specifications and features of the Asus ROG Strix Gaming GeForce RTX 2060.
