Cyberpunk 2077 Benchmark (4K – Ray Tracing: OverDrive)
CD PROJEKT RED released an update (v2.21) for Cyberpunk 2077 which includes their Ray Tracing: Overdrive option with RTX on and DLSS3 enabled. It’s incredibly demanding on your hardware.
Verdict and Conclusion
When Nvidia released the GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card with 12GB, it was’t as well received as its bigger sibbling, the RTX 5070 Ti 16GB, which was launched a few months earlier. One of the reasons for the luke-warm reception was the fact that Nvidia claimed that the RTX 5070 can offer same (or better) performance as the RTX 4090 … which is NOT true. I supposed Nvidia messed up their marketing (again!).
The truth is, the GeForce RTX 5070 is meant to target the mainstream market at a reasonable price point, offering decent 1440p performance on games that can support DLSS with Frame Generation. But the only thing is … you get less VRAM of only 12GB (even the next tier down, the RTX 5060 Ti has more VRAM at 16GB). Now you see why people are asking questions.
Although the RTX 5070 may not be as attractive at the RTX 5070 Ti in terms of performance, it is a lot cheaper priced at $549 (MSRP). That’s a $200 less that the RTX 5070 Ti priced at $749 (MSRP). Sadly, these MSRP prices are now a distant reality, which we can only dream about.
OK, now let’s get back to the review, and see what the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 EAGLE OC ICE SFF 12G Graphics Card really has to offer. Based on Nvidia’s RTX 5070 GPU (GB205) featuring Blackwell Architecture, it comes with a total of 6,144 CUDA cores, 5th Gen Tensor Cores (988 AI TOPS), 4th Gen RT Cores (94 TFLOPS), as well as support for the latest DLSS4 and PCIE 5.0 interface.
Furthermore, the card uses a slightly overclocked GPU with a boost speed of 2,587 MHz (the default is 2,512 MHz). You also get 12GB of GDDR7 VRAM on a 192-Bit memory bus running at speed of 28 Gbps.
During our tests, we used an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K processor, along with a Gigabyte B860 AORUS Elite WiFi7 ICE motherboard and 48GB of Viper Gaming Xtreme 5 DDR5-8000 memory. We got pretty decent scores in all of our benchmarks, including a score of 8,388 for Basemark’s Relic of Life, and a Geekbench GPU score of 181,325. For Unigine’s Valley benchmark, we got a score of 9308, and a Final Fantasy benchmark score of 20,736. Passmark 11 GPU score was 31,633.
For Unigine’s Superposition 1080p extreme and optimized 4K benchmarks. We got good scores of 13,307 and 17,619 respectively. For 3DMark Steel Nomad and Speed Way, we got respectable scores of 5,269 and 5,846 respectively. For Port Royal, and Time Spy, it produced a score of 14,125 and 21,922 respectively. And lastly, we got a DirectX Raytracing score of 58.07 fps and a DLSS score of 121.10 fps.
For our Cyberpunk 2077 tests, CD PROJEKT RED released their new update (v2.21), which includes a new benchmark mode. It features their Ray Tracing: Overdrive option with RTX on and DLSS4 enabled. It’s incredibly demanding on your hardware, so we added it to our benchmark tests (see above). The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 EAGLE OC ICE produced a score of 38.67 fps at 4K.
The graphics card is cooled by Gigabyte’s WINDFORCE cooling system, which includes three Hawk fans that reduces air resistance and noise levels. It also comes with a reinforcced metal backplate, a Copper plate and a composite heatpipe, along with Server-grade Thermal conductive gel. All these great cooling features help to reduce the overall load temperatures of the GPU. A full load, temperatures reached a high of 68 degrees Celsius, which we what we expected, so no issues here.
Power consumption reached a high 205.59W which is pretty good, as it falls below Nvidia’s specified TGP of 250W for the GeForce RTX 5070. I was expecting higher, especially with and oveclocked GPU, so anything below the specified TGP is good news. Nvidia recommends a minimum power supply of 650W, but to be honest, we suggest a minimum of 750W, 850W or higher for future expansion.
Video outputs include 3 x DisplayPort 2.1b and 1 x HDMI 2.1b, allowing you to display up to 4K @ 480Hz or 8K @ 165Hz with DSC. There’s not a lot of RGB lighting on the card, just a thin subtle LED strip on the top of the card, which is enough I suppose.
The package includes a 2 x 8-pin PCIE to 16-pin 12VHPWR adapter with the package. Important word of advice. Make sure the 12VHPWR cable is SECURELY connected to the graphics card. Failing to do so will cause major issues/damage to the card.
The card is labelled NVIDIA SFF-ready, which means it should fit in most compact cases and small form factor chassis. It has a total length of 290mm, and only uses up to 2 PCIE slots space with a thickness of only 50mm.
You can buy the Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 EAGLE OC ICE SFF 12G Graphics Card for around USD $659 from Newegg – https://tinyurl.com/56thfwam
Final Thoughts
If Gigabyte can keep this graphics card as close to MSRP as possible, then it’s definitely worth a look. The Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 EAGLE OC ICE SFF 12G may not be the fastest graphics card on the market in this price range, but it does offer great aesthetics, a SFF size, and provides decent 1440p gaming performance (with DLSS/RTX on) that’s on par with the RTX 4070 Ti thanks to its overclocked GPU.
