Now that the NDA has lifted, we are pleased to have the opportunity to share some “preview” information about GIGABYTE’s new Radeon R9 285 Tonga Pro based graphics card. Expect a full fledged review from yours truly in the coming days which will include a full battery of testing and overclocking! Until then, read more and check out some of our own teaser information that we have compiled so far.
The included software CD includes the AMD Catalyst Suite version 14.4 which is the latest non-beta driver available as of today.
The R9 285 is extremely fresh off the press with a BIOS date of 08-18-14. The total memory size for this particular PCI Express 3.0 graphics card is 2GB of GDDR5 with a Core Clock speed of 973 MHz and a Memory Clock speed of 1375 MHz.
Take a look at the additional information available about the Radeon R9 285 OC in TechPowerUp’s own GPU-z software. This graphics card is running extremely cool and quiet in idle mode at 28 degrees celcius!
Here is the graphics card’s first stab at the Fire Strike benchmark which is a part of Futuremark’s own 3DMark software. That is roughly a 1500 point increase over my GTX 760 2GB for reference!
Any one who benchmarks will know what a tough-as-nails test that the Unigine Valley software is. A pretty respectable score, I do believe!
Here is a quick run with Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIV: ARR benchmark. I wonder if I will be able to crack 11K with an overclock?
Arguably the best fighting game series of all time, Ultra Street Fighter IV pretty much gets its you-know-what handed to it by the R9 285 OC graphics card.
No word as of yet on pricing. Stay tuned for the full-fledged review later this week and until then thanks for reading and have a Funky Day!
Update: The MSRP appears to be $259.99 USD, according to various sources.
