Temperature, Power Draw, and Overclocking
The RX5600 XT THICC III Ultra has the game GPU frequency of 1660MHz and the boost clock up to 1750MHz. In tests, we were able to reach these values while most of the time, the GPU clock was slightly lower. Reference clocks for the RX5600 XT are 1375MHz for the game clock and up to 1560MHz for the max boost. It’s already a huge difference, and it explains why our results are close to the RX5700 or even its overclocked versions.
Below is our overclocking result.
The RX5600 XT THICC III Ultra, the same as any other RX5600 XT, has quite limited overclocking options. The card is really close to the maximum possible frequency available in the AMD Wattman. We can set only a 2% higher GPU clock and 1860MHz memory clock. These values are matching the fastest available RX5600 XT on the market. So, where is the advantage of the THICC III Ultra? It’s one of the highest (if not the highest) clocked RX5600 XT out of the box, so these clocks are guaranteed. It’s also the quietest RX5600 XT on the market. So here you have the main reason why this card is so good.
Because of already high base frequencies, additional overclocking is not giving us much. On the other hand, we don’t really need overclocking with the THICC III Ultra because it’s already fast enough to handle all games at it’s recommended 1080p or higher screen resolution.
Worth to mention is also the power draw. The maximum GPU wattage after overclocking reaches 177W. Considering it’s overclocked with an unlocked power limit, then it’s one more strong point of this card. On the other hand, unlocking the power limit is not helping much. The difference between auto and +20% power limit gives us around 5MHz max boost.
In short, I can say that we are receiving already maxed-out RX5600 XT, so it can’t be better.
