Verdict and Conclusion
From the results in our previous pages, we can see that the Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 AMP Edition produced some really good scores in our benchmarks. It performed slightly better than the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X, and in some cases better than the AMD Radeon RX 480.
Aimed at the mainstream market, the GTX 1060 has less CUDA cores (1280), less video memory (6GB GDDR5) and only 192-bit memory bus. This equates to the performance that sits below the GTX 1070, which is what we expected. Having said that, the cards is no slouch either. It produced some pretty good scores in all of our benchmarks, including DOOM with Vulcan and Ultra settings enabled.
I think the GeForce GTX 1060 offers one of the best price/performance ratios currently available. It can easily match the AMD Radeon RX 480, if not better, both in price and performance … and in some cases outperforms it.
This is all thanks to the pre-oveclocked GPU running at 1556 MHz (default speed is 1506 MHz), with boost speed reaching 1771 MHz. The included FireStorm overclocking utility can take the card even higher … though I would warn you to be careful.
During my tests, I got some very good scores in our DX 11 benchmarks. For 3DMark 11: X5804, for 3DMark – Firestrike: 11,131 and Monster Hunter Online: 11,909. For DX12 benchmarks, we used 3DMark – Time Spy: 4,250 while DOOM (Vulcan): average 131 fps. If you look at the graphs between the GTX 1070 and the GTX 1060, there’s a performance difference of around 35-40%, while price difference is around whopping 50-55% extra.
Pricewise, the Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 AMP Edition is selling for around USD $280, which I think is real bargain. What you’re really getting is a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card with pre-overclocked GPU that gives you very good performance. Buy now at Amazon – https://goo.gl/egJ1xD
There is one very important thing you have to consider if you do decide to go for any GTX 1060 card. Nvidia have removed the multi-GPU/SLI capability on the GTX 1060s, which is a shame. I would have love to see two of these in SLI mode action!
Pros:
- Very good performance
- VR-Ready
- Pre-overclocked at 1556MHz
- Boost speed of 1771MHz
- 1280 CUDA cores
- 6GB of GDDR5 video memory
- 192-bit memory bus
- Small foot print, small and compact
Cons:
- No multi-GPU/SLI capability
Final Words:
The Zotac GeForce GTX 1060 AMP Edition is a very capable graphics card that’s small, compact and extremely appealing to mainstream gamers and HTPC users. Not only does it offer very good performance, it beats both the MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Gaming X and in some cases the Radeon RX 480.
