WiMiUS L1 4K Action Camera Review

WiMiUS L1 in Action

Armed with the WiMiUS L1, I took a trip down to SSP to meet up with Winston. Along the way, you can see how the L1 performs recording at 4K 24fps, image steadiness, cropping, image and sound quality.

I mounted the L1 in the open enclosure supplied, and then mounted that on top of a small monopod which I carried around.

The WiMiUS L1 copes very well in low light conditions with the sensor picking up the smaller details without much noise. I muted the sound as I wanted to talk about that separately later on in this review.

When I grabbed the record files off the micro SD card, I found that the WiMiUS L1 would stop writing to a file and start a new one whenever the file reached 550Mb. during editing, and I stitched the files together there was some image distortion both at the beginning and end of each footage, you won’t see these in the video above as they are mostly in the timelapse.

The above video was again shot in 4K 24fps but in Timelapse mode set to 5 second intervals. The images is mostly sharp, and the there are added controls on the WiMiUS L1 which lets you set the timelapse intervals from 1 second all the way up to 10 minutes per shot.

Sound

Let’s start off by letting you hear how much sound the WiMiUS L1 picks up at the side of a busy road in Hong Kong:

The volume is quite low, and there was no setting in the menu system for me to adjust the microphone gain.

In a small room, whilst Winston was doing the unboxing, this is what the L1 picked up 5 feet away from him:

And if think the volume then was low, I then placed the L1 in the waterproof casing:

Yeah, I had to turn up the volume on my speakers as well just to pick up any noise. The waterproof casing is completely sealed, as it should be to prevent water from leaking in, but because the microphone on the WiMiUS is very weak it just does not pick up any sound.

All in all, the microphone on the L1 is very quiet, and with it being an affordable action camera, there isn’t an option to plug in your own microphone, shame really.

Pretty cool, the price and set of features, compared to competition, is very enticing. At a fraction of a cost you can technically get 4 of these and set up multiple filming angles. Thank you for this comprehensive review, Wing.
