WiMiUS L1 4K Action Camera Review

Photo Quality

To be honest, I never take photos on my action cameras, but I do see the ease with which you can take photos with one, without having to change over to another camera or smartphone. The following photos were taken with auto settings, with no post-processing.

The above photos were taken on the highest 3 resolution settings, with other settings going all the way down to VGA! On the highest 2 settings, the photos come up quite sharp but as you go down the scale, more and more noise start to creep in.

Verdict & Conclusion

I’m a little at odds here on how I should rate the WiMiUS L1. Not only do I look at its features, its performance, and where it lacks, I also take into consideration its pricing and competition. Priced at US$79.99 on Amazon, the WiMiUS L1 is one of the cheapest action cameras that can record in 4K, with video footage being bright and sharp. The downside to the 4K footage is that there seems to be small glitches here and there, coming from either the processor itself or its file management system (which a software update can fix).

Low-light shots are very good on the L1, but the biggest let down must be the sound recording. The sound picked up from the built-in microphone is very quiet, and when you put the WiMiUS L1 into its waterproof casing, nearly all sound is lost. Without the option for an external microphone to be plugged in, the L1 is best used for those wanting to shoot some action footage and then edit it for a video collage.

Do I recommend the WiMiUS L1? Despite its flaws, I did enjoy using it. Having spent a good 20-30 minutes getting used to its menu system, I then quickly changed the settings on the fly without much thinking. There are also so many features on the L1 which I did not have time to cover, such as adjusting the field of view from wide, normal to narrow, setting the L1 to either have a fisheye effect or not, and myriads of photo settings such as manually adjusting ISO.

Pretty cool, the price and set of features, compared to competition, is very enticing. At a fraction of a cost you can technically get 4 of these and set up multiple filming angles. Thank you for this comprehensive review, Wing.
